Creating a neat and secure ballet bun doesn’t have to be complicated. With a bit of practice, you can master the art of crafting your own perfect ballet bun! Follow these steps to achieve the ideal look, whether you’re preparing for a recital, competition, convention, or simply want a fun updo. These guidelines will help you create the perfect ballet bun with ease!

What you will need:
- Brush
- comb
- hair tie/ elastic
- Bobby Pins
- Hair Net
- Water
- Detangler
- Hair Moisturizer
- Edge Control/ Gel
- Hairspray

Step 1: Brush and comb your hair to remove tangles.
To start, ensure your hair is free of tangles. Use a hairbrush and your preferred detangling comb to achieve this or a combination of both. Apply a good detangler or water to make your hair more manageable during this process.

Step 2: Brush your hair into a secure ponytail
To create a stable bun, start by securing your hair in a tight ponytail. Brush or comb your hair back and fasten it with an elastic . Position your ponytail on your head where you want the bun to be. This could be a high bun (toward the top of the head), a low bun (near the nape of the neck), or a traditional ballet bun (in line with the ears).

Step 3: Twist sections of the ponytail into a rope and secure with bobby pins
Divide the ponytail into sections, twist each section into a rope, and wrap it around the elastic, securing it with bobby pins . A tightly twisted rope will create a more secure and compact bun. Follow the direction in which you twisted the rope (clockwise or counterclockwise), making sure to divide the sections evenly and twist uniformly in each direction.
If you have long or thick hair, you may need larger bobby pins. Use bobby pins instead of hairpins, as hairpins have less grip and strength and won’t secure your bun effectively.

Step 4: Securing the bun.
To ensure your bun stays in place, use additional bobby pins to secure it to your head. Check for any loose pieces or flyaways. Smooth them down with edge control or gel for a polished look.
I personally prefer to use edge control over gel, gel has alcohol as an ingredients which has a tendency to dry out certain textures of hair.

Step 5: Secure the bun with a hair net
Cover your bun with a hair net that matches your hair color. You may need to wrap the hair net around your bun multiple times, depending on its size.

Step 6: Secure the hair net
Secure the hair net with additional bobby pins. For extra hold and security, spray your hair with hairspray.

Voila! You have your perfect ballet bun!
Happy bun-making!
